Question:

Is it too late to freeze the chicken?

There is a boneless, skinless chicken breast in the refrigerator. It's been there since Saturday when I bought it. I want to freeze it because I'm not going to be able to eat it for awhile. Will it go bad by me doing this (because it was never frozen from the onset)?

  1. It's safe; I just did it last week with a leftover chicken breast that my recipe didn't need.  Then I defrosted it and used it for another dish a few days later.


  2. You're on the edge.  I would cook it right now.

  3. Check the expiration date on the package. If it hasn't expired, it's ok to eat or freeze.

  4. It's four days old, as long as your refrigerator is at 40 degrees or colder it's still good, but not totally fresh. I'd cook it first and if your not ready to eat it, freeze it then.

  5. smell it and check the sell by date.

    if it smells ok and it is within the sell by date

    you probably can freeze it, if you have had it refrigerated all this time.

    i usually rinse mine in some white vinegar. if it foams or turns white--or any color, then throw it out. when you cook it make sure you cook it to the proper temperature.

  6. Par cook it first (half way cooked like medium rare) then cool and freeze that will kill and halt any potential organisms that could make you sick if you froze it directly.

  7. I would say you are right on the edge.. I would cook it and then freeze it..and you could tell if it was to late by the way it smells when you

    cook it  unless it smells now..then it is to late or if it looks  yukky.


  8. why risk it? throw it out & buy another chicken.
