i've always wanted to learn ballet and how to play the piano, but as a kid, my parents didn't have enough money for me to take lessons. i'm 18 now and i have my own job, so i want to pursue these hobbies. i heard that adults usually have difficulties learning ballet, but i've always really wanted to learn. is it really too late to pursue these hobbies?

  1. It's never too late to take up something new.  You may want to consider getting into a limbering up program before you start the ballet lessons, but definitely go after the piano.  Find a teacher who works with adults at the beginning level.  If you run into any problems, contact a music conservatory for a list of teachers they recommend.

  2. 18 is not too old to pursue anything as a hobby.  My mom (age 58) has just taken up jewelry-making.  I have piano students who are grandparents and are learning piano for the first time.... they're learning quickly and having a blast.

  3. NOPE! IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN SOMETHING YOU HAVE A PASSION FOR. LOTS OF DANCERS ON SHOWS LIKE "SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE"  and 'DANCING WITH THE STARS" HAVE LITTLE OR NO TRAINING - OR STARTED AROUND YOUR AGE. IT HELPS  IF YOU ARE IN REALLY GOOD PHYSICAL SHAPE AND HAVE NATURAL GRACE AND RHYTHM - AND FOR PIANO IF YOU HAVE AN "EAR" FOR MUSIC.

BUT DON'T EVER STOP PURSUING YOUR DREAMS!!!

    GOOD LUCK!

  4. It is never ever ever too late to do anything. Ever. You can learn new skills at any age - even when you're old and wrinkly! Never feel like your too old to try something new - you'll regret not doing something much more than if you tried something and it didn't work out.

There are lots of adult ballet lessons, and piano lessons are open to anyone. Look in the yellow pages, or search google for lessons in your area.

    Good luck!

  5. No, not at all, in the greater scheme of things, you are still very young. Even much older adults can learn to play an instrument or to dance (watch any dancing with the stars show and see that those older folks with full performing schedules still learn specific dance routines) How good you become will depend on what natural ability you have, and of course on how much you can practice, but age is NOT a problem. Go for it!

  6. Of course you can!! Most communities have ballet for adults, so you wouldn't be with a bunch of 5 year olds.  As for the piano, if you are still in high school, go to the choir or orchestra director, they should have a list of private teachers.  If you are out of hs, just open your phone book or go to your local instrumental music store for a teacher. Good luck!

  7. There are adult ballet classes! And call  a private piano teacher in the area and schedule a meeting with them. You should definately pursue them if they interest you. Piano is a great talent to have and ballet can bring you years of enjoyment. Good luck!
