  1. playing the drums is actualy really easy to pick up, you can even practice without a drum kit, the idea is to be able to move your right arm in a rythem, tapping on a pretend hihat and counting 1234, 1234 then try kicking a kick drum with your foot on the floor, and tap at your desk with your left hand. if you can do that without stoping your right hand, then you could easily do it on a drum kit.

obviously thats as basic as it gets, but most people can tap out a basic drum beat after a few hours of practice, it's all about keeping your right arm moving without an interuption. so literaly within one hour, you could be playing a basic drum beat

  2. M H,

Hey! It is never too late to learn an instrument, the aforementioned answers are absolutely right. Here are a few tips to help you with your new endeavor:

    - Practice for little while, frequently, as opposed to for big chunks of time, infrequently. 15 minutes of practice a day is much more valuable than 3 hours of practice once a week. In my opinion, it is easier to fit 15 minutes a day into my busy schedule anyway!

    - Get a professional drum teacher for the first few months. I can't stress enough how important this is. Yes, it is very possible to get proficient at the drums and have a lot of fun learning by yourself, but it can lead to bad habits. Bad habits that will be embedded within you and extremely difficult to break later on.

Having a half hour lesson once a week with a teacher will get you started off on the right foot. They will be able to notify you of any bad practice habits or technique flaws. Money and time well spent, trust me!

    - ALWAYS practice with a metronome (click track). A metronome is a machine that produces a steady pulse at a specific BPM (Beats Per Minute). It will keep you from speeding up and slowing down when practicing and help you develop your sense of rhythm and tempo.

    - Don't give up! It will most likely be very difficult at first (unless you are a late blooming prodigy, hehe). With any instrument though, once you get over a certain mound of difficulty, it is all fun from that point on. Learning and practicing will no longer be work.

Good luck with your drumming, I hope it works out well for you. Take care!

  3. Of course not. It's never too late, and 25 is still young!

  4. Its never too late, my friends dad (64) just started playing cello and he's never played anything before, goodluck!

  5. No way- if you want to have a go enjoy!

  6. Of course it's ok...

I picked up guitar again at age 27..

So go for it if you want to try it!
