I am about to be a sophomore in high school. I am sick of being bored and I want to play soccer though but I don't want to play soccer unless I play another sport. I was thinking baseball because looks fun and I played it a long time ago. There is one small problem though . . . A LONG TIME AGO. I love watching the Louisville Bats, the Reds, and the Yankees. Playing sports is a good way to get more friends and a girl I like plays basketball and softball. I want to play basketball, like I used to, at one time I was good, but i suck tooooooo much at it now.

Okay I'll stop telling you my life story. I want to know how I can get a lot better in 6-months to a years time. h**l I'll practice every other day in the rain, sleet, hail, snow, 90 degree weather, or 30 degree weather if I have to. I want to know some techniques to pitch better, hit better, catch better, and other exercise routines to help me in baseball. Is it even to late to sign up for sports in highschool. I don't want to be major league level, I just want to be a helpful player on the team.

  1. It's not too late, you will just be a small step behind everyone else. You first want to learn how to catch fly balls, which will be required for every position, and learn how to play each position (if your team is short a player you'll become that much more valuable). Then get into the batting cages and HIT, HIT, HIT (practice bunting too while your at it, that's a very usefull skill). You should also get to a camp to teach you fundamentals. (And do not try to copy anything you might see from the Little League WS, you'll need better fundamentals than what they play with to play High School)

  2. I think you may have waited too long. I started when I was ten and I'm barely making the teams now. I may DH a little bit, but other than that I'm like third string. There's no way you can learn enough, build enough technique, or get strong enough to play this year, maybe the year after, but not now.

At this point, I wouldn't worry about pitching, focus on an outfield position and see where you can go from there. Just work on overall core strength and throw some power cleans in there to improve bat speed. Work in the cages for a long, long time and see what comes of it.

I wouldn't give up altogether, just know that it's going to be very, very hard. If you don't make the team, you could always offer to be manager. You take book and wear a uni, but you won't play. You still get to leave school early though.

  3. If you have no Fundamental Skills built up, then yes, it is way too late. You'll look like a r****d playing with kids in highschool that are good..  Unless your school has a C team and you'll still be a backup

  4. Well when you pitch and you're throwing a curve, stride farther (step farther towards home plate).

When you're hitting, make the least amount of head movement possible. If your head moves, the ball will seem to move.

To get a stronger throwing arm, play long toss. Not right away of course, maybe about a week or so after you start playing catch.

Soccer conditioning is extreamly good. Just try to get to top speed in 2-3 steps. (When you steal)

And practice everyday if you can.

  5. It's too late, you're way too old to start. And please don't make me read your life story again.

  6. Well... most baseball players in high school have been playing since teeball. So you won't be as good as them.

Buuut... you can practice a lot and be a decent player. Just find some friends to go to a baseball field with you and practice running the bases as fast as you can. Practice catching. Practice throwing. And go to the batting cages A LOT.

Another really important thing you should do is find someone that plays baseball and practice with him. He can teach you how to stand and move your legs when you bat, how to swing right, ect.

It takes a lot of practice though. But I think you could improve a lot in 6 months to a year.

    HOPE I HELPED!!! GOOD LUCK!

  7. running! you need speed.

and every chance you get go to the batting cages.

repetition is the only way to learn and get better.

  8. work on your strength and speed, you just need to practice practice practice, and have some confidence.the coaches will teach the right mechanics

  9. It's never too late to try anything you want to try.Life is short and you've only got one shot at it, so live it up!

  10. Play baseball again it's so fun.
