Question:

Is it too late to switch toothpaste?

Ok, I got braces about two weeks ago. I have been using whitening toothpaste without really realizing it. I know that will cause my teeth to be two different colors when the braces come off. If I switch to a non whitening toothpaste now, will my teeth still look two different colors when my braces come off?

  1. I doubt it will be a problem if you go ahead and switch, whitening toothpaste works so little as it is you'll hardly notice a difference. Plus if you JUST got your braces, and you don't do anything else to whiten your exposed teeth, by the time your braces come off it would have evened up anyways.

  2. two weeks will make no visible difference. especially as whitening toothpastes barely do anything, and your braces are going to stay on for months at least.

  3. I was told it a rare to see rail road tracks on teeth. It probably will not matter because you will still be eating food that will stain the teeth. I would not use whiting kits on them. If you are still worried I ask the orthodontist about that.

  4. I'd suggest asking your dentist/orthodontist for a definitive answer about this.

A whitening toothpaste removes discoloration caused by food, drinks, etc. The portion of your teeth covered by the braces are protected from that discoloration.

I don't expect that there would be much, if any, difference in the color of your teeth when the braces come off. If anything, I'd expect that a non-whitening toothpaste could increase the chances for a color difference developing.

  5. no i dont think so....
