So I did a bit a dancing when I was younger (10 to 14) and I was wondering is it too late to dream that I want to become a professional dancer? I'm going to be 17 soon, btw.

  1. no, I don't think so.

Do you want to dance with me? I've been looking for a partner...

  2. yah it kinda is, most pro dancers start at a very young age, just like gymnastics

  3. Possibly not too late, but don't get your heart set on it...I know a few that made it after age 17.  The oldest did not begin until he was 19, but he was a natural with TONS of talent.  The odds are against you, but with a TON of talent, a burning passion for dance, 10-15 hours of class/ week not counting rehearsal for show ets, and some excellent teachers you MIGHT have a chance.  Make if possible sure you take classes at a school noted for putting out male dancers. Good luck.

  4. honestly, it's a lot easier for men to be ballet dancers if they start at a young age. many men start when they are 14.

but you are going to have work extra hard. you need clean technique, good turn out, strength for pas de deux, and amazing jumps.

and who says you have to audition for a company as soon as you graduate from high school? You always can audition when your 19 or 20, or even after college, and still get good training!

Good Luck! I hope you do well.

  5. It depends how comitted you are and how good you are.

  6. it might not be. it depends on how good you are. you should try to get into a 'proffesional' dance school (like the royal ballet or something) if you manage that then its not to late. i say go for it! take some classes and audition for a school!

    good luck!

  7. It depends on what you've been doing in the mean time.  I know of one professional male ballet dancer who danced all over the world who didn't start ballet class until he was around 17 -- he was a gymnast in high school.  But if you want it, go for it.  You won't know if you don't try, and it'll only get harder the longer you wait.

    Good luck!
