Is it treason to NOT trade humanity for patriotism?

  1. Good point.

    I'm in favor of patriotism when it takes the form of pride and civic activity.

    But that pride all too often turns into arrogance, and the ignorant belief in their own nation's superiority in all facets.  Most of these people have never step foot outside their homeland.

    George Bernard Shaw once wrote, "patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all others because you were born in it."

    I prefer Mark Twain's view that "patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it."
