  1. no ... maybe on a really steep hill you could break the parking pawl but mostly no affect


  2. Ok let me explain a bit. When you don't use your e-brake, the car stay still because it is on "Park" or "1st" if you're driving stick shift.

    That this does is that your can is being held in place by the transmission, so you're putting a lot of pressure on it. Therefore, using your e-brake will indeed help maintain the transmission.

    TIP#1: You will knoe when the car is being held by the transmission if the car sort of "jumps" when you're parked and release the brake.

    TIP#2: When you park your car, first put the e-brake on, then release your brake. If the car moves, you're not using you e-brake correctly, or it doesn't work. If it doesn't move, then you can put the car on "Park" and shut off the engine.

  3. Normally no, however putting the emergency brake on when parking on a hill will make it easier to get the transmission out of Park. Putting the brake on on a flat surface serves no useful purpose except keeping the brake cable from rusting up.
