I just left my prenatal appointment and I read in one of the magazines while I was waiting that eating cold sandwich meat is bad for you because of the amount of bacteria. The artical said you sould warm any kind of meat before eating it. I want to doubt this because so many restaurants and diners serve cold sandwiches and surely they wouldnt serve something that could make you sick.

  1. Pre-packed Sandwiches are generally made by low paid workers whose Bosses could not give a toss about Food Hygiene

    Avoid, whether pregnant or not!

  2. Everything is bad for you including the water and air.

But fear not, take the positive approach and eat and drink anything you want.

Sooner or later you'll die anyway

  3. if you are pregnant, it could be harmful. Any processed lunch meat is frowned upon during pregnancy.  Be careful.

  4. My OB had that on their list as well. You shouldn't eat deli meat for a few reasons.

    (1) it could contain nitrates and other bad things like lots of sodium that aren't good for you or the baby at this point

    (2) deli meat could be contaminated with listeria. Its a bacteria that can cause an infection that's especially dangerous to pregnant women moreso than the general population. It can cause miscarriage as well as threaten the health of the mother. I don't think the contamination is common, but why play russian roullette with your pregnancy.....

I am currently pregnant and want a bologna sandwich terribly, but I am fighting the temptation. Its just not worth it to me.

PS...ask your OB for a list of foods in general to stay away from while pregnant. I am sure they have one!!

  5. It's not that they have bacteria, they are processed with nitrates & include trans-fats, fats & high sodium which aren't so good for us...this includes hot dogs, sausages, bologna & other packaged meats.  It is considered to cause colorectal, & stomach cancer.

    Eat sparingly.

    Fresh meats are okay.

    Congrats : D
