  1. While breastfeeding full-time does have some natural effect in suppressing ovulation, it isn't foolproof enough to depend on as birth control.  Your doctor should have discussed birth control options with you at the time of your postpartum checkup, so you did not have to go through any of this.  I suggest you return to the gynecologist and make some sort of arrangements for birth control, so you do not have to do this again.  It's not a good idea for your health or a baby to have a back to back pregnancy, before your body has had a chance to recover.  In the meantime, whether your partner appreciates it or not, he needs to wear a condom or stay away from the playground.  I nursed all mine, and I did not have periods for nearly a year while I nursed.  My sister nursed her daughters, though, and had periods each month starting three months after delivery.  And I've seen enough new mommies get ugly surprises to know you can't depend on nursing to protect you.

  2. Yes it is true that some women who are breast feeding don't menstruate.  This is due to hormone levels.  However, YOU CAN STILL GET PREGNANT, though your chances are reduced, so if you don't want to get pregnant use some contraception.
