And then after WWI it never became Berlin again? How could they do that to Berlin?

So if a Canadian says I lived in Berlin and then moved to Kitchener, it means he never moved?

  1. Not only was Kitchener once called Berlin... it was also once called Sandhills... and Ebytown.

The first settlement was called Ebytown in 1807... when Benjamin Eby first settled the area...

Another part of the area (which is close to the current city center) was called Sandhills...

The town center was renamed Berlin in 1833...

The city was renamed Kitchener in 1916... due to growing anti-german sentiment and internal conflict during WW1...

  2. Yes, it's true.
