That's only $150/hr. Do you know how many more Americans make substantially more than that that do not come close to her education and, yes, earning power? What about Cindy McCain? What is she doing for the millions she gets? Find another specious argument. I'm not impressed that with her Harvard education she is only earning what someone out of that school with her education would make after 3 - 5 years but maybe someone making $50,000 a year might be impressed. It's not Michelle Obama who is raising medical costs. Try the insurance and pharmaceutical companies. This isn't on the front page in America because it's not a story. The raise is consistent with an increased responsibility in one of the largest hospitals in America, and is on level with others who hold similar positions at similar hospitals, and the funding request was not an earmark, it was part of his job representing the state.

The University of Chicago Medical Center is one of the best in the United States. If you look at Senators from states with other top hospitals, you'll find that they also support funding for their best hospitals. It's not an earmark, it's supporting a needed service and improving both prestige and value for the area. That's pretty much in his job description as a Senator.
