  1. He must have bought it from Tony Bliar

  2. Fraid it is! Mr Mugabe was created an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in 1994.

  3. yes it is. And it is has not been rescinded.

  4. the man is an enigmatic con-man ! he could of swindeled the entire country of the queen if he could . i swear that man has a physcological problem to do with power

  5. In 1994 Mugabe was bestowed an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath by Queen Elizabeth II. This entitles him to use the postnominal letters KCB, but not to use the title "Sir." UK Foreign Affairs Select Committee called for the removal of this honour in 2003, but no action was taken.

  6. Someone made a very bad mistake if they did,Mugabe and honour are non-compatible words.

  7. Sir, I am on 'shaky ground' here as I cannot give you a reference or source as to why, but, like you, I think that the Mugabe knighthood was preposterous. An Honorary Knight Commander of the Bath in 1994!

Certainly, in the last twenty-eight years, Mugabe has been at loggerheads with some British Governments but perhaps not in 1994. In 'recent' years he has told the British Government "To go to h**l." when sanctions have been suggested or criticisms of him have been made, and he has cited the hypocrisy of Colonial rule. Maybe. But he hasn't done too well, either.

This is hardly the stuff which would commend an idiotic megalomaniac to the British PM for the Honours List today. Mind you, 'we' did give an honorary knighthood to Casper Weinberg, U.S. Secretary of Defense, during the first Gulf War, for his steadfastness and resoluteness. On those terms, you can't fault Mugabe! Ian Smith, former PM of the then Rhodesia didn't get one! You risk the wrath of HMG at your peril. No knighthood for Osama, then?

Another point is that, surely, he should have been 'stripped' of any such honour by now. Knighthoods, I believe, can be rescinded but not peerages, as Geoffery Archer knows - although to be fair, he is not in the same league! Remember, also, that Idi Amin, former dictator of Uganda, was fond of awarding himself all sorts of honours.

At the end of the day, I don't care. No disrepect to present holders of honours but as long as he 'is sent packing', that is all that matters. Hope he ends up at Terminal Five at Heathrow!

  8. 'fraid it was. In 1994 (I think)

It was well before all the problems in Zimbabwe of the past six/seven years. Perhaps we should start a petition to have him stripped of it. After all Lester Piggott was stripped of his OBE after he went to jail for tax evasion. (contrary to popular belief he was never given a knighthood)

  9. he must have given it to himself......

  10. Yes he was awarded an honorary KCB (Knight Commander of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath
