  1. In general, u get the refund by applying thru mail, or thru purchases at the duty free shops where they dont charge GST.

The refund applies to only the eligible goods purchased by a foreign tourist to leave Canada within 60 days of the purchase date. Eligible goods are mostly goods you bought primarily for use outside of Canada, and do not include goods consumed in Canada, meals (restaurant, groceries), alcohol, tobacco products, etc.  Here is the govt link that you can find out more.  http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/nonresident...

  2. Not on everything but some things. You needs receipts.

  3. There was a sales tax visitor's rebate on purchases, but it was never refunded at the border. You used to have to file an application by mail in order to get your money back.

The reason I say 'was' and 'used to'... the new conservative government saw fit to eliminate the visitor's rebate program effective April 2007. Now, the only program available is on accomodation, and only if you are a tour operator.

  4. Yes, it is true for traveling aboard. However, you don't pay tax in Canada, then when you enter America, they might charge you duties. So, you might get taxed in US.

And there are lots paper you need to fill out when you filed. And it will best to use credit card, so you have the track of things. And sometimes, the store might require you to purchase more.....

  5. no thats not true
