i saw somewhere it said that car accidents are avoidable and preventable, and it said that accidents happen because the driver is just being irresponsible and not using common sense. What are your tips for safe driving?

  1. I feel if the driver's being attentive and driving the best he/she can many accidents could be avoided...but if you're hit by someone else without time to respond to the situation...I can't agree that accidents are avoidable.

  2. Always expect the unexpected. Never just assume that all other drivers on the road are going to follow the rules properly, or that they even know what they are. Know that people are going to cut you off in traffic.....be prepared for that to happen. Know that people aren't always going to change lanes safely, and a lot of people will try to beat red lights. You have to know all these things are going to happen, and you have to watch out for them.

  3. always watch all around you, watch mirrors, and when going around corners or 4 -ways be extra cautious!

  4. All accidents are avoidable.

  5. well coming from a truckers point of view...i guess i could say that if you dont drive like a bat outta h**l obey all the rules  and dont cut off the trucks then there should nt b a problem right?? wrong...tips for safe driving...

    1. when going out on holidays-dont!!! too many drunks!!!

2 use your signals...the car manufacurer DIDNT invent them for preatty lights...

3.when you pass a big truck, dont just look in your rear view mirror then switch lanes...look,flasher WAIT....untill you can see the driver of the truck then get  over...(about 3 car lenghs)

4.dont pass big trucks up on right hand side...thats suicide !!!! passing side is left.....

5.dont hang out in "the no zone" that is the area of the truck to where if you bcant c the driver they cant you..

the rest of it is just commin sence

  6. I guess the answer to your question is yes and no.  You can take steps to not cause an accident and you have already gotten a lot of good advice on how to do this.  If you slow down, buckle up, use your turn signals, maintain a safe following distance, don’t talk on your cell phone, respect that big trucks can’t stop on a dime, and expect the unexpected, then you are already a safer driver than most.  But remember that you can’t make anyone else drive safer!  People are unpredictable and do the dumbest things.  If someone cuts you off don’t take it personally, either, and if someone flips you off because they didn’t have enough sense to get out of your blind spot and you almost ran them over, just take a deep breath and get back to driving.

I am a little surprised that no one has mentioned weather.  Weather can cause accidents.  Snow, ice, leaves, wind, rain, etc.!  The only way to avoid those things is not to drive, but that isn’t very practical.  When it is snowing, give the guys in the big yellow trucks a chance to salt and plow.  When the conditions are right for ice, slow down, don’t make any crazy turns, and increase your following distance.  If there are leaves on the road, treat them like ice.  You can’t really do anything about wind, and this is more of a problem for motorcyclists, so watch out for the guys on the bikes.  Lastly is rain, which is actually more deadly when it has stopped!  Right after it stops raining the road can be very slick, and never ever try to cross flooded roads.

Use common sense and stay alert – you’ll do just fine!  (Well, as long as no one else hits you...)

  7. From your perspective, accidents are avoidable, but you cannot answer that for other drivers. Driving is a risk everybody runs daily. It may seem we can control accidents from occuring, but other drivers test are driving skills daily. A couple years ago, I was in an accident where someone rear-ended me. See I maybe a safe driver, but there is no way I could stop that driver from hitting me, it's beyound my control. My safe tips for driving... avoid texting, talking on the phone (just mainly in a heavily populated area like downtown-because it's so crowded and your twice as likely to get into an accident).

  8. In a perfect world this would be true, but sadly it is up to each of us to do our part.

I simply suggest paying attention, obeying traffic laws, no cell phones (I've broken that rule a couple times though), and keeping your eyes open.

If everyone took a couple simple steps than there wouldn't be accidents.

  9. Don’t tailgate—it won’t get you to your destination any faster. Use an adequate following distance between your

vehicle and the one in front.

Make it a habit to signal early.

    Size up the whole scene.

Green does mean GO...but first make sure the intersection is clear!

Adjust your mirrors to reduce that blind spot next to your car.

    Stay focused at the wheel.

Driving is a full-time job—avoid using your cell phone.

Turn on your headlights when you use your wipers.

Don’t use cruise control when the roads are wet.

    Buckle up every trip...every time.

    Watch your speed.

  10. Some can be avoided. Do not talk on the cell phone or text ect. Do not eat and put make up on ect. Any thing that can distract is a potential for an accident. A girl in Utah was killed cause the driver of another vehicle was texting and ran a red light and hit her and killed her while she was driving.

  11. Accidents caused by YOU are mostly avoidable by driving defensively. Accidents caused by OTHERS are more difficult to avoid.

  12. Yes, all car accidents are avoidable. Not by all parties involved  all of the time but there is usually at least one person who could have done something to prevent the accident in the first place.

  13. dont put your makeup on when you drive, put the cell phone down, & quit jacking with you dang CD's.....  that will help
