  1. I was in Sasebo and Hiroshima Japan in January. It is cheaper than the USA with certain things however that's only due to the exchange rate, everything depends on the exchange rate at the time. Food is cheap and very filling, the people are very respectful and do not want tips in restaurants, however things like katana samurai swords are not too cheap. I bought mine for $240 USD but they could be priced at over $600 USD.

  2. no... not at all.  I think price in australia is much more expensive than Japan.  Maybe yes for a foreign traveller who is a stranger in an unfamiliar country but if you got information and know where to shop before travelling.  Then  you could save a lot of money to travel there.  For example, Osaka where I uesed to live for 2 yrs, it didn't cost me too much at all from living and life expense.

Just you got to be careful to be keen in your budget while travelling, cuz there are a lot of attractive things to lure your eyes and heart to have rush to buy it ... Hahaha... Just remember list what you would like to buy.  Their electric appliances and gadgets on the whole street selling such stuff are quite d**n cheap than you can have in your country.

  3. Why does everyone want to go to Tokyo?! It IS the most expensive city in the world. It all depends how long your going for as well. If you stay in ryokans or capsule hotels your still up for $30 a night for accom add  another $30 for food and a couple of beers. If you want to travel around Tokyo area add another $10 for the day. I'd make it about$100 a day.

If your planning on moving to Japan you will need about 300 000 yen for key money (at least esp. in Tokyo), rent is about 200 000 yen per month amenities are about 10 000 yen , food is about 40 000, etc etc. Your up for about $10 000 to get yourself an apartment and have enough money till first pay, setting up your place, buying groceries etc.

If you go outside of Tokyo, you can nearly hal these costs. Serious.

    Have fun!

  4. It really depends on you and what you want to do. Japan can be very expensive or super cheap. If you eat at expensive restaurants and stay at expensive hotels it will cost you a fortune. If you stay at a moderate hotel you can find a place near a the train stations for less than $100.00 weekdays and not too bad on weekends. You can eat udon, or soba and lots of other good things at super cheap prices even the conveni stores like 7-11 and Lawsons offer a wide variety of delicious things really cheap. It is a world of difference between conveni food on Japan than in the U.S. and other places I have been.

The trains are pretty cheap unless you plan on going from like Tokyo to Kyoto on Shinkansen or something. That gets expensive but you can buy a 7 day or 14 day special pass that gives you unlimited riders on all JR trains for a reasonable price if you plan on doing a lot of travel.

  5. Simply, Yes. Especially Tokyo. It's often rated the most expensive city in the world.

  6. Depends where you're from. I live in Europe and for all Euro countries Japan is incredibly cheap!

  7. Plan on things costing at least 3 to 5 times more than in the states.   Some things are about the same, others are off the charts (like golf).

It is still worth going.  I love Japan.
