I think I read that somewhere, that it has been proven by science everyone alive today is related to one man.

  1. Not really- a very small group of our earliest hominid (pre-humans like australopthecines) ancestors left one area of Africa and populated most of the rest of the world, but it wasn't one man, no. Also, most studies like this use mitochondrial genetic markers that are traced through the female line, so if anything it would be that one female was our ancestor, but again it is a small group of individuals

Kind of a nice thought though that we are all connected so closely!

  2. Yes, i suppose it is true.....I'm sure you will get a bunch of stupid answers

  3. read it believe it, the bible.

if ya believe we came from monkeys go marry one. wait it could be related to you! science goes so far then comes god.

  4. Yes, he's called the 'most recent common male ancestor', AKA Y chromosome Adam.

It's a mistake to think that he was the only male around at the time. The wiki entry for it gives a decent explanation.

  5. yes, it is true -- many times over.

    consider the following:

"In 1980, a man from a small town called Limone Sul Garda in northern Italy went to a doctor for some problem, not heart related.

Testing of his blood showed very high levels of triglycerides, and very low levels of HDL, the good form of cholesterol.  By all rights, the man should have either been dead from, or in imminent danger of a heart attack.

But his arteries were clear.  Analysis of his blood showed he had a very special form of Lipoprotein, a type of HDL.  And further work with this particular type of Lipoprotein revealed astounding results.

of the forty or fifty people in that tiny Italian town, all descended from a man born in 1760, a man who had a small change in his genes, not a single one has yet to die from heart disease!"

in our history, every single mutation that makes us human happened to a single individual.

all who are alive today that have that mutation are the offspring of that single individual.

in our genetic past, there have been thousands -- tens of thousands, of such individuals.

each one of them is a single branch on the evolutionary tree from which everyone living today is descended.

evolution and natural selection are not very forgiving.

  6. .
