  1. In 2009 the Digital switch over take place. Analogue transmissions will be phased out. A TV capable of receiving Digital signals will be required.

  2. I belive it is.

  3. (This answer assumes you are located in the US)

    No, neither is  true.

The only thing happening in 2009 is that most of the old analog over-the-air TV broadcasts will shut down on 2/17/09.

That means that if you have an analog only TV and get free TV broadcasts with an antenna, you will need to buy a cheap converter box to go between your antenna and TV to keep receiving broadcasts.

These converters cost about $10-$20 when you use a $40 government coupon.

This change does not effect cable & satellite signals. Some cable companies are switching their systems to all digital (not necessarily in 2008) but they will still provide conversion of those signals to the old analog type.

Digital TV signals can be made with high definition picture quality. But if you watch those broadcasts with a converter box or non-HD digital TV, the picture quality will be down converted to something like DVD quality.

DVD quality is about the best picture quality that old analog only TV can display.

  4. if you have cable, nothing will change, however if you use an antenna you will need a digital converter box if your tv isn't digital (DTV) ready. No worries..e-mail me for any further clarification.
