that if a turtle is on it's back too long, it crushes their lungs and they die??

  1. it is true with tortoises and turtles, their lungs are found at the very top of their shell if they are on their back too long the internal organs can squash the lungs  making it hard to inflate them, http://www.scientific-art.com/portfolio%... if you look at the second picture down on the left (don't worry it is a drawing  so is not gross)  you will see the space where the lungs are found, right at the top of the shell, you can see the bones of the legs, these are what the tortoises use to pump air in and out like a bellows, they don;t breath like we do they have to pump their lungs with their legs, so if the tortoise is on its back and the internal organs squash the lungs down it makes it harder for the tortoise to get air back into its lungs and it will eventually suffocate, not sure on the time limit it would take though, but all tortoises and turtles are built the same inside,

  3. They cant breathe when there on there back, They have a really hard time breathing... IDK if it crushes there lungs.. But it can kill them.

  4. Yes they die plain as that they cant breath its like putting a car on your chest
