Is it true that the Indian Reservations have their own laws which are out of USA jurisdiction? Are the police allowed to go into an indian reservation without their permission? Can a Native American flee to a reservation and have immunity?

  1. The USA does have Indian nations that have a great deal of autonomous power.  But the federal government still has ultimate jurisdiction.  Much like a state they can make laws as long as they don't undermine federal law.

No, an Indian nation does not represent sanctuary to a fleeing criminal of any ethnic background.

  2. Yes State Governments have no jurisdiction over them when on the Res, they are dealt with directly through the Federal Government as if they were a different Nation, but have to obey by federal laws

  3. Yes, this is true. Most reservations don't have luxuries like running water, electricity, etc. There was a documentary I watched about the Native Americans living on reservations and it's like they're living in a 3rd world country. It's sad because they're living in the US.

  4. There are Native Americans living within the US, not on separate land.  They are the true minority.

There are separate lands for Native Americans, called reservations in the past, now called Nations.  They have their own laws, and law enforcement, yet have to abide by the US Constitution and Federal law.  Local law enforcement may come onto that land and ask for their law enforcement to help in a case.  But it is the same as entering another jurisdiction, they cannot enforce law without permission or assistance.  Running from the police onto Native American soil does not grant immunity, you will be turned over to the agency.

Some Nations live in third world conditions, most do not.  There are businesses, water, sewer, electric, phone, etc.

  5. they all have different rules but some of them can be considered separate nations, there is one in south dakota that succeeded from the nation and now is its own county now its waiting for validation from other countries
