Is it true that 95% of what we hear we will forget after a while?

i also heard we forget half of what we have heard within 8 hours!

i wouldnt be surprised, i mean we hear so much and alot of it is repetitive

we just tune out some sounds and we start to focus on new sounds, eventually we forget alot of things

It depends on the individual.  Some people have better memory than others.  Most of us hear things and forget about them within a short time, unless it's something important and relevant to us we make a special effort to remember it.  

As for listening skills, you could do a course to improve it.  I think most of the time we have poor listening skills because of our own attitude.  If we are less obsessed with ourselves and more interested in others, our listening skills will improve.

well when listening to stuff, if you want to remember something write it down for u to remember later. they say your more likely to  remember the things you write down.

It's all still in there you just need a way to find it .A better question might be why you remember something from 20 years ago but not something from 20 days ago
