Is it true that Bamboo can grow up to 4 feet a day?

I read somwhere that some species of bamboo can grow up to four feet a day. Is this true? If you have a reference website available to this please include it in your answer.

Yes there are species of bamboo that can grow extremely fast.  Not quite 4 feet per day for most, but up to about a meter per day is not uncommon
