Question:

Is it true that Brasso can remove scratches on glass?

Whilst on holiday my mother 'babysat' our cat...she also went bananas around the house. Most of which I am grateful for, however...

The neighbour spray painted her garden fence just before we went away and it went all over our french window, which has original very thin 1930's glass.

Anyhow my mother in her wisdom has fessed up that she attacked the glass with..a pan scourer..yes..a pan scourer.

So we now have very attractive swirly scratched glass marks which are really noticeable. I've trawled the resolved Q's on here and a couple of people have mentioned Brasso.

I thought it might be worth a try before buying some sort of 'kit'.

Is it worth a go or will it make it worse?

Mothers eh?

  1. i dont know about brasso but if the scratches are not to deep you can get them out with jewellers rouge you can get that in any glazing shop hope that helps you

  2. If they are not too badly etched on the glass you may be able to get them out with toothpaste.  Will be a long job though.

  3. Its great for plastics - things like Ipod screens etc but I think it will be too soft for glass. You are probably better off using a 'cutting compound' and a high speed buffer (you can get attachments for an electric drill). Its a similar technique to that used by watch repairers for taking scratches out of old crystals but you need to be careful - its easy to over do it and make things worse.

(Yes mothers.. mine decided to clean paint off of my fathers glasses with a brillow-pad :)  )
