  1.   Er, a little less.

  2. The total eclipse I believe lasted close to two hours... but totality, when the moon is directly in front of the moon, only lasted a little while. Totality is a short event, but it also the most spectacular. People seem to be in awe when the moon just barely moves out of totality position, and a glare of sunlight shines through.

  3. It is impossible for the total portion of a solar eclipse to last more than about 7 1/2 minutes over any given location.  An eclipse may approach two hours for an entire eclipse event, including the partial phases, but the time of darkness would still be less than 10 minutes or so.

  4. yah it was on august 1st to bad we couldnt see it in the u.s thou

  5. It depends upon what you mean by eclipse. I watched the internet broadcast from China at around 5-7am CST. From the time the Moon first started to cover the right lower part of the Sun to the time it left the Sun on the upper left perhaps 2 hours or a little more had passed.

The actual annulus only lasted for a little over 2 minutes at around 6:10 am CST. This was the total length of time that the Moon completely covered the Sun. The length of an annulus varies depending upon location and different solar eclipses.

It STARTED to get dark as the Moon covered over half of the Sun but this was only measurable with equipment. Surprisingly, it only takes a very small amount of sunlight to make it appear bright. So it was only actually dark for about 2 minutes. The surrounding horizons appeared as if it was sunset in a whole 360 degree radius which the cameras did not show but must have looked cool. Stars were visible during the 2 minute annulus.

As a last note, there were sporadic clouds in the broadcast area and they cleared just in time to witness the full annulus. I could not find a repeat video of the broadcast on the web.
