Actually, When the December 21st is the beginning of a new era. The Mayan calender was counting down to this new era, not to the end of the world.

i don't think it will happen. there is no way we can narrow down the end of humanity for all we know it can happen tomorrow or in a 1000 years. no one know the hour nor the day of the end of times...

I want to say no, but I feel like I'm just trying to make myself believe what I want to believe instead of dealing with reality. There is major turmoil in the political landscape that could have very serious consequences for all of us. Just get right with God now and we will all be ok no matter what. Its according to the mayans who said its the last day of the world. Nobody knows whats goin to happen to dat particular date. There were lot of hypes before dis date dat the world is goin to end but nothing happened. Scientists do predict the upcoming disasters dat may happen in future but they did not gave any sort of hint dat the world would end on 2012. Predictions are there dat mass extinction may occur in future but not the end of full human race.

So in short 2012 may be the end or it may not be !!!!!

Why do you believe this?  Ask yourself that.  What evidence do you have?  If the world was ending in 4 years, wouldn't the TV be filled with talking heads discussing it.  Wouldn't there be demands for military action?  Wouldn't every magazine and newspaper on Earth be filled with stories?

No I don't think December 21, 2012 is the end of earth...it's just a prediction right now. Probably another hundred or less years until that happen but I don't want to think about it b/c that's a really scary thought!!

The fact is, we have already passed by literally hundreds of predicted dates of the apocalypse. The Jehovah's Witnesses alone have predicted the end of the world on a handful of different dates, and various numerologists and so-called doomsday prophets have been predicted armageddons so fast in the past few years that barely a week goes by without another numerological prediction falling flat on its face. Given all this, why, WHY I ask, does anyone still take the 2012 c**p seriously? What is it about December 21, 2012 that makes THIS one the TRUE apocalypse?

Nothing, of course. Sorry to burst your bubble like this, but December 21, 2012 is likely to be a perfectly normal day. Sure, some little earthquake or tropical storm might happen in some part of the world, and the numerologists will claim that that was 'the beginning of the end' and that the world is going to end in 2015, or 1016, or 2019, or 2023, or any of dozens of other dates. The fact is, THE WORLD IS NOT ENDING. At least not due to any numerological, astrological or religious reasons. Because if it were, it should already have done so hundreds of times over. The Earth has become very, very good at surviving the predictions of doomsday prophets...rendering those predictions pretty ineffective at actually marking any kind of REAL apocalypse.

This is a collection of myths and disproven theories being promulgated by doomsday predictors, who predict a new one every few years. There is no scientific theory or evidence that anything unusual is going to happen in 2012.The longer explanation is below:

It is based on the end of the current cycle of the Mayan long count calendar. No doomsday was predicted and the Mayan civilization died out, so a new cycle wasn’t written.

Niburu (Planet X) doesn't exist. Zecharia Sitchin is an author of books promoting the ancient astronaut theory for human origins. He attributes the creation of the ancient Sumerian culture to the Annunaki (or Nephilim) from a hypothetical planet named Nibiru in the solar system. The Doomsayers predicted that it was to hit Earth in 2003. Undaunted when it didn't show up, they just moved it out to 2012 to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar.

Galactic Alignment - takes 36 years to precess through galactic equator, we will be 6 degrees off in 2012.

Asteroid Apophis - the 2001 alert was for 2029, and was canceled after additional observations showed it would not hit us.

Polar Shift - the magnetic poles are moving all the time. Polar reversal happens over thousands of years.

Passage through a "photon belt" has been added. This is also untrue and wouldn't hurt us if it were. Photons are merely units of light.

Solar flares happen all the time and we have more of them at some times than others. They haven't caused any serious problems in the past. The direct effects of solar flares are mainly related to communications and radio transmissions. We had a major series of solar flares in 2005. Did you notice anything? I didn't.

The interpretation of the Mayan calendar thing is just plain wrong – it’s just the end of a cycle. And since calendars are based on astronomical motions of one kind or another, they are inherently cyclic. Our western calendar ends on December 31st every year!

Planet X/Nibiru does not exist. If it did we would have found it by now. We have mapped the sky in the infrared several times in the last 25 years (including WMAP, IRAS etc), and it would show up. It is not there. We would have found it if it existed. So all the nonsense about the return of Nibiru/Planet X is just that – nonsense

Furthermore, at the distance it must be to hit us in a little over 4 years, it would be reflecting enough light from the sun to be detectable.

Thanx to previous question from Brant and answer from bikenbeer2000, we know how bright it should be by now – it would have a apparent magnitude of 7.4 – which would not be visible with the naked eye – but easily visible in a modest telescope and would have been spotted by amateur. If there was a conspiracy to keep it quiet – it would be out of the bag by now.

Ask someone where it is supposed to be, get a pair of binoculars and look for it.

Furthermore, it is supposed to be in orbit around a brown dwarf. We have detected brown dwarfs at much larger distances than the alleged distance of the sun’s mythical brown dwarf companion, so why haven’t we seen this “star:?

The videos on YouTube that purport to have evidence are disingenuous to say the least. They put together pictures of other objects (e.g. Jupiter, comets even a dust shell around a distant red giant star) and try to scare people. There is no validity to their claims. They present NO EVIDENCE at all.

As for the predicted catastrophes – the most popular one seems to be the Pole Shift!

The sun will have a pole reversal that year – it has one every 11 years – it is not a problem.

The earth’s magnetic field is less predictable –

but is still nothing to worry about: we know that the magnetic field does not collapse in the process of reversing polarity- if it did, there would be major extinctions that correlate with the geologic record for pole reversals - there is no correlation.

which tells you that the precise alignment of the solstice with the Galactic equator was in 1998. It did not cause problems. The Galactic Equator is purely a human construct – not a physical thing. And we do not get any closer to the black hole in the center, which remains approximately 8000 parsecs (26,000 light years) away.

Hi Dhara, If it had to happen, it would have happen in the year 11.11.1111, 12.12.1212, 09.09.1999, 01.01.2000 and many more examples. There were all these rumors in the past and nothing happened. Now its 21.12.2012. If you have watched the movie THE HAPPENING, people say now, that the same is going to happen shortly. Don't get into the grove of believing such things. If something had to happen, it would just happen without any ones predictions like the tsunami. Lets be happy to see another sunrise and sunset.
