If this is true, why do you suppose that is?

Have any other presidents been knighted before?

  1. He Couldn't have been, in the U.S. Constitution it states that any citizen cannot hold any royal or any other titles.

  2. Yep..George Bush Sr..(father) was knighted by queen of England and also Ronald Reagan..

  3. He should have been knighted, drop kicked, then all the OB-GYNs and their patients having menstural cycles could have went and shared their "love" with him.

  4. What?????

  5. George H W Bush has an honorary knighthood (Knight Commander Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath) which was awarded in 1993. The Current President Gorge W Bush doesn't. Reagan also received the same honour. Other Americans including Caspar Weinberger, Bill Gates and Rudy Giuliani have also received honorary knighthoods.

These knighthoods are awarded on the advice of the British Government, very few honours are awarded directly by the Queen.

One that is the  personal gift of the Monarch is the Order of Merit and there is currently only one non-Brit who is a member and that is Nelson Mandela.

  6. Ooh no don't say that. Now he will walk around being followed by men with coconuts.

  7. Absolutely Not!

  8. I sincerely hope not.  That would be an insult to knighthood and basically render it meaningless.

  9. he is a king already why would he want to be a mere knight.he is the king of the u.s.a ha ha

  10. If I understand the requirements, you have to be a british citizen and subject of the monarchy to be knighted.

  11. How silly is that. You can't be serious.

  12. This is a definite. George Bush has not been knighted. This would have been written up in all of the major United States newspapers, on the television and even on the radio stations.

  13. where on earth did u come up with that tidbit?  not true

  14. Don't you have to be English? Or a British citizen?

  15. Daniel W is largely correct, but Mandela is only an honorary OM as South Africa is a republic and not one of the Queen's dominions. Eisenhower was also an honorary OM because of his role in WW2.

The book 'All the Best' by GHW Bush describes his receiving his knighthood (which was probably suggested by John Major as he was an admirer; similarly Thatcher was a great fan of Reagan and was no doubt responsible for his). When I was in the Henry VII chapel of Westminster Abbey, the book listing all the knights of the Bath was open to the page with Bush's name.

Clinton was not given an honorary knighthood despite some Labour MPs calling for it in 2001, and there is no way Bush Jr will receive any British honour.

  16. nonsense

  17. I thought he already has a Crown on his head?!

  18. I don't think he was .... but you never know.

Relating to the other answers that have degraded our President .... it is easy to disgrace yourself by disgracing others. Your parents must not have taught you much about manners because I was always told that if you did not have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Not only do you promote yourself as a jack-*** when you discredit people, but you speak as if you knew from experience. The question was about Bush being knighted, not asking what you thought of him.

  19. Impossible.

    a) knighthood lacks meaning when conferred to people who are not british subjects (for instance, knighted Irish media personalities don't even rate being called "sir")

    b) Being made a knight implies a an oath of allegiance to the sovereign. the ruler of a sovereign nation could never do such a thing, or he'd be tried for high treason and executed within hours of coming back home.

BTW, Bush, the Elder, not the younger, indeed received an honorary membership in the order of the Bath, but only AFTER stepping down from power.

  20. the Queen has the ability to knight whomever she wants.  Bill Gates (Microsoft guru) is American and he has been knighted.  As for Bush.... No he has not been knighted.

  21. I don't think it's possible under US law, also both are heads of state.  Many Prime Ministers have been knighted but they are not heads of state, the Queen or the Govenor General her representative is.
