  1. I've never heard this, but that doesn't mean it's not true.  To clean up my jewelry I use a soft toothbrush and a little bit of toothpaste.  It makes everything really sparkle.


  2. I suppose (if the "dirt is grease)  Gold itself never tarnishes or gets dirty.  Gold in the Egyptian pyramids glistened as it did the first day it was laid down 3000 years ago.

       There is no acid that you yourself can obtain that will dissolve gold.   It is very soft(the pure stuff) and alloys of it are harder but still scratch.  Still you want to use a non-abrasive cleaner on it, otherwise you are "sanding it away to nothingness"
