I'm thinking of getting a maid just for one time and I heard they won't clean up clutter.

  1. usually they only "clean" but the house should be straightened up a bit

  2. NO! tel them your a slob, if you are and let em clean it! your hiring or paining for it!

I remeber when i was young we had a housekeeper and I cleaned before she came, how stupid!

  3. Yes, you should de-clutter your house.  But really your just need to make sure your dressers and tables are clear of major amounts of stuff - floors too.  You can simply stack things in a pile.  Then they can easily move them and clean under them.  More clutter just means less time they will have to do the actual cleaning.

  4. Well, it makes it easier to clean and dust if you don't have to move stuff, clean, and then put it back. Most housecleaners will happily do whatever it is you like but it can take twice as long to clean a cluttered house so you have to be willing to pay for that time.

I'd suggest going through the house and put things where they belong, put dirty laundry in the hamper, put clean clothes away, pick up things that don't need to be on the floor, tidy surfaces so the maximum area can be dusted, etc etc. You can do that much faster than someone who has never been in your house before.

  5. you want to put up your things. the maid is there to clean not figure out where you keep your stuff.

  6. The term maid and housekeepers are generally used in the same context; the above mentioned are used more often and will do what you request within reason...you are paying them right??? If you have alot of cleaning and want to remove clutter hire a cleaning company.

Before you do this know who is coming into you home and make sure they are bonded for insurance reasons.

  7. I think it is really up to you.  I am a professional cleaner and I come across all kinds of things.  It doesn't matter to us- you are the one paying us for the time it takes to clean and straighten everything.  If you are picky about how you want your things and you want them just right you should straighten up first.  If you want an area that is cluttered to be spotless and perfectly clean you should straighten it up yourself because it is difficult and time consuming.  If you specifically want it done just let them know.  Sometimes people want their kids toys picked up off the floor or clothes put in the laundry room, etc.  Sometimes they don't care  if we just go around the stuff.  It is all up to you, if the company or person you are going through won't do it find a different one who will.

  8. if you are willing to pay the price, Go for it....
