  1. Here's an excllent piece on the Jinn based on the arabic lexicons from the Holy Qur'an.

    http://www.alislam.org/library/books/rev...

love for all, hatred for none

  2. Allah knows best.

  3. yes they can, some solid black cats or snakes i guess

  4. No, they don't 'transform' into animals.  Some animals ARE jinn but it isn't like they used to look like something else before or can transform into something else.

Some dogs are jinn, some snakes, among some other animals according to hadeeth but it IS NOT a matter of 'transforming'.

  5. depends on what you believe....there are good and evil jinns....i suppose they can take any form they want to because they are creatures of free will.....that having been said, we know that good jinns will lead you in the right direction while evil jinns will compel you to do bad or lead you astray and i just don't see an animal doing either....how could a dog, a cat, owl etc compel/persuade you to do good or evil?....as for genies (another word for jinn)  no, i don't believe genies in the sense of the word as we know it (lamps and all) exist, however i do believe there are angels and demons

  6. they can transform into animals. -“Snakes are the metamorphosization of the jinn”- hadith

-“The black dog is a shaytaan”- hadith

-Ibn Taymiyyah said they can be black cats

they can transform into human beings-Shaytaan came to the Mushrikun in Badr, as a human, and promised them assistance. He fled when he saw Jibreel descend and said, “I fear Allah”

-Hadith of Abu Hurairah: a man tried for 3 nights to steal the zakaat money in Ramadan, and the Prophet said he was a jinn.

-They can take the form of regular human beings in order to cause corruption, strengthen the place of shirk in the human heart.

-In Fathul Baari, Umar was asked how can jinn morph and take a physical structure different from their own? He said they cannot do that without the help of the magicians amongst the jinn. So if you see one, make the adhaan, because they flee when they hear it.

  7. yes they can. Here are some examples:

The jinni may appear in the form of a human being as recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari when a devil came to Abu Hurairah (R.a) in the shape of a poor man and Abu Hurairah found the devil taking much food of charity.

    2) The jinni may appear in a form of dog or black cat as confirmed in Sahih Muslim that the Prophet (p.b.u.h) said: "A black dog is devil". Ibn Taimiya (May Allah's Mercy be upon him) said: 'The black dog is a devil, and the jinn often appear in its form, since the black color can bring the devilish powers more than other colors.

    3) The jinni can appear in the shape of snakes. Thus, the Messenger (p.b.u.h.) banned killing home snakes lest may any of them be a Muslim jinni. Abu Said al-Khudri (R.a) said that Allah's Messenger (p.b.u.h) said: "There are Muslim Jinn in al-Madina: If one appears to you, in any form, you are to admonish it to depart for three days. If it appears after that, you must kill it, for it is truly a devil". [Reported by Imam Muslim]

  8. Sara- My cat is fully black. Could he be Iblis in disguise?

  9. Hadith - Sunan of Abu Dawood, Narrated Abu Sa'id al-Khudri

Muhammad ibn AbuYahya said that his father told that he and his companion went to AbuSa'id al-Khudri to pay a sick visit to him. He said: Then we came out from him and met a companion of ours who wanted to go to him. We went ahead and sat in the mosque. He then came back and told us that he heard AbuSa'id al-Khudri say: The Apostle of Allah  said: Some snakes are jinn; so when anyone sees one of them *in *his *house, he should give it a warning three times. If it return (after that), he should kill it, for it is a devil.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

"There are three types of jinn: one that flies through the air, one that are snakes and dogs, and one which stay in places and travel about." [This was recorded by at-Tabarani and al-Haakim and by al-Baihaqi in Al-Asmaa wa as-Sifaat with a sahih isnad.  See Muhammad Naasir al-Deen al-Albani, Sahih al-Jaami al-Sagheer, vol. 3, p.85.

Black cats being a jinn might not be authentic.

"Do not kill the jinn, except every one(snake) with two streaks on the back, for they cause miscarriages and take away the eyesight.  Therefore, kill them."

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Snakes are the forms of the transmutations of the shape of the jinn in the same way that the apes and swine were transmutations of the tribe of Israel." [This hadith was recorded by at-Tabaraani and Abu ash-Shaikh in Al-Udhma with a sahih chain.  See Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani, Silsilaat al-Ahadith al-Sahiha, vol. 3, p. 103...............................]
