  1. No but by 2020 that would be true!!!

  2. Kili does have snow for most of the year but it is definitely thinner and often non-existent on areas that used to be snow covered year-round. Approx. 80% of snow cover has gone.

As to why, the health of our planet is at least as complex as the health of our bodies; there can, and often are, multiple factors involved, some of which reinforce the "illness" once they start.

I don't think anyone can be as definitive as, say, Randall or Jim who seem pretty sure of themselves despite the source given refers the opinion of just 2 scientists.

I'd also be very hesitant to base my opinion on the output of one fiction writer as That Guy does...

    Suffice to say:

    a) The snows of Kilimanjaro are disappearing and are likely to be completely gone soon

    b) There are a number of factors involved in this'

    c) The steady rise in the Earth's temperature cannot help and may well be a significant factor

The pdf file, written and supported by hundreds of scientists and international and government agencies, not just two, below gets into all the different factors but probably the most important point hey make is:

"Whether [the decreasse in glaciers and snow cover is] caused by (mostly man-made) landscape changes or whether climatic changes are of higher influence on

the Kilimanjaro remains an open question."

P.S. I do wish people with nothing of value to say what say exactly that - nothing!

    George L:

Al Gore did not say that there was no snow (so you are the liar, not him)

The question doesn't ask what Al Gore thinks - your statement is irrelevant.

    P.P.S.

The fact of global warming does not require that every change in the weather has to be attributed to it - it is possible to have some changes (possibly, for example, snow cover on Kili) that are (or may) not be caused by GW and still have GW as a fact!

  3. Check it out on Google Earth for yourself.

  4. The snow cap is receding, but it has nothing to do with the global warming. It is believed to be caused by changes in the surrounding land use, which is causing less precipitation.

Check out point #5 which was ruled on in a UK court.

  5. Randell E is correct.  It has nothing or next to nothing to do with anything related to man's emissions of CO2.

  6. wow!  I didn't know that.  We were looking at pictures of Africa it is so beautiful.  But they have some low spots to.

We were picking out the spots that would be under water if it rises just?? can't remember but there is a lot ofplaces.

I remember England, it is an island that is barely above sea level.

  7. It does still have an Ice cap and yes it is receding, but it is receding due to development of the land. There used to be a rain forest surrounding it and it is being cut down. The rain forest used to hold on to tons of moisture, and when the wind would blow through the rain forest the moisture would rise up the mountain and freeze making the ice cap.

Since there isn't as much forest then there isn't as much moisture, so the ice cap is receding. BUT if the rain forest is replanted the ice cap would come back!

  8. nope I see snow AL Gore is a liar http://www.kilicam.com/

  9. i think thats true

  10. Hopefully someone who has actually been there will answer.

  11. Its snowcap is receding but it has nothing to do with global warming, man-made or not.
