It's only immigrants. It doesn't apply to people born their. I've googled it and saw it on Fox News and the Guardian UK.

While I'm not a fan of Fox's political opinions, they are at least reputable in reporting non-political news.

  1. That sounds more like asian countries never having fat ppl in their society...lol

  2. nope, ever seen any Maori women? they're thick and lovely.

  3. yes it is true

  4. The article is meant to inflame. However, it is true that NZ does require a medical assessment of individuals applying for visas to live and work here under certain visa categories. This is to prevent them becoming a burden on the NZ taxpayer. It doesn't solely relate to weight as people with various medical conditions also find themselves scrutinised. It is quite rare that a person is completely excluded. Usually they would be told to reapply or to hold off on applying.

  5. OMG IM MOVING THERE!!!

too many fat feminist b*****s in America

  6. Yes it is.  They are in short food supply and they cannot afford to let "Big Bertha" in and create an even greater shortage of food.

  7. Of course not! thtz ridiculous

  8. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Could you imagine the discrimination cases they would have if this was true. So yes they do allow women of all sizes into their country.

  9. I live in New Zealand. It's basically true.

With every resident visa application you have to undergo a medical check.

Because we have a public health system, the government has a financial interest in the health of people coming in - people with Aids might for example cost far more in healthcare than they will ever earn in taxes.

I am NOT saying this is a good way of looking at immigration, only that this is the way that some people do.

Yes, there are plenty of fat people arriving here. Many are tourists, or citizens or people from islands that New Zealand regards as being effectively part of New Zealand. There's also ways of getting in through family.

This was quite a big story back when, and there have been several since. It generated a great deal of discussion at the time in our media.

In fact, we recently had a story of an obese woman who died after her oxygen machine stopped due to power being cut off (long story). It came out that she had actually had to lose weight to get in to the country, but had gained the weight back later.

  10. We want healthy, law abiding migrants. What's so strange about that? In fact, I believe that laws should be even stricter.

  11. Where the h**l did you get that from?

You dont even know anything about New Zealand

We are kind of like the Canada of Australia

  12. for real?

  13. i just read the links you provided. She isnt coming in as a tourist she wants to live an be part of the economy. To come into a country it makes sense to be a functioning part rather than a burden. New Zealand has an increasing obesity rate and the strain that it puts in the health resources are huge, so NZ is saying please be healthy when you get here because we cant afford to pay your bills. Which i think is reasonable and fair.

Also Australia do this aswell. The woman in question is very obese and would only be putting pressure on the health sector. I think it is a good idea, people immigrate to NZ for a clean green lifestyle why not make it healthy as well

  14. no - this completely untrue (as can be verified by standing at arrivals in Auckland airport as passengers come in - it's not a modelling contest)!

As has already been stated - the article in question is referring to an immigration situation - in which case the requirements for NZ are the same or similar to most countries is relation to personal health. A number of health aspects are looked at for any new migrant - which may include factors likely to contribute to respiratory conditions, heart disease, diabetes, etc - of which obesity is one contributing factor.

  15. How would they decide if someone is fat or not..? Have some scale at the airport? I doubt it =P

  16. No not true.

We have plenty of fat people here!

  17. hahahahaha well i keep seeing lots of fat woman walking around so im pretty sure they let fat people in

you may be on to something tho

  18. do not know but found website

  19. lol datz messd up i wuld b allowd fa sho doe

    ♥BoSSaLiNa KeEzY♥

  20. Never heard of this, but if true they are in for it.

  21. Yes it is TRUE.

Few years back there was a incident in which they rejected immigration for a woman who is FAT. The reason for this would be, NZ government would not like to take responsibility for the imergency occur due to your weight.

  22. It's not true.

You must know that most things you pick up on the net are dubious, but this "news" coming from both Fox and Guardian is disturbing. Even mainline news organisations can not be trusted now.

However, it make for good headlines and a sensational story.

Nanny state (Parliament), though, has recently declared that obesity is the main sickness in this country.

  23. that's about as true as michael jackson saying he doesn't touch little boys.

  24. thats an interesting question

    i really dont know

but what if they are born that way or how would they know if the woman hides all the time and never gets caught

    do they weight the women?

  25. ppppppppppffffffffffffftttt where the h**l did u hear tht> im from new zealand and there is a fair amount of obese women here. you must be blonde or sumthing. everybody thinks that new zealand is this clean and green but in reality we are struggling with green house gases, and if you walk down a country road there is rubbish everywhere that has carlessly been chucked out the window.

  26. WOW I have NEVER heard that, but that would be extremely insulting and judgmental  if someone found they weren't allowed into the country because of a weight factor!! Plus, how do they define fat anyhow?? Perhaps you heard the New Zealand planes had a weight limit therefore excluding some people from being on the plane safely. And why just women. Hm. I would like to know the answer to this too! Hahah, good luck.
