  1. Yup. Well some trains do. You can see on the front, it has a letter and a number (eg V 50). "V" means the set type of train it is.

V-Set-Blue mountains, Sth Coast, Newcastle-Air Cond.

L,R,S Set- Wollongong, North Line, West Line, East Line, East Hills Line, Bankstown line, Richmond Line-Non Aircon

T, G sets (tangaras)- Blue mountains, western line, north line, east line, south line, wollongong, bankstown line, newcastle, richmond line- Air Conditioned

M, H sets (milleniums/oscars)-Blue mountains, east hills line, bankstown line, wollongong line

K, C sets- western line, richmond line, bankstown line, inner west line, northern line, eastern line, east hills line

Hope this helps although its somewhat confusing.

69% of CityRail trains have aircon by the way so its about a 2/3 chance you will get aircon.

  2. There are some air-conditioned trains which run on the Northern Line.

Sydney isn't that hot compared to other cities. It's July by the way, which means it's winter.
