  1. No. Is it true that no one would come to a speech by McCain no matter what free bands there were? Yes. Obama is young and different and a great speaker to boot, McCain is old and boring, get over it.

  3. Let's say you were working for Obama, and wanted to promote a big speech. With thousands and thousands of people there, you'd expect them to show up early for a good seat ... and you'd want to keep them entertained somewhat while you wait. So I can't fault the campaign for bringing in a couple of bands for entertainment's sake. It's not like this was U2 there or anything.

    Besides, campaigns are all about pictures. The one of Obama addressing 200,000 people was exactly what the Obama campaign wanted. You can't buy that sort of image on the newscasts at home. So, speaking as a political operative for a moment (which I'm not), I would think some food, drink and entertainment for the masses would be money well spent.
