No, it was actually the Pacific Ocean. He and Lance Bass did it last year after going up in the Soyuz space capsule.( Russians version of the Space Shuttle.)

A fish in a nice and warm pool. Don't get me wrong, I admire Phelps and his achievement as an athlete, but swimming open waters ain't a walk in the park, considering wind, water temperature, etc. Ask any triathlete. Plus not even the fastest species of fish could cross the ocean in 2 minutes.
