  1. She initially supported it while running for governor then turned it down when it became a national symbol for pork barrel spending.

^ Anchorage Daily News on October 22, 2006 (Q and A while running for Governor):

Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?

Palin: Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now—while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.

She is also a supporter of ANWAR, has sued to take polar bears off the endangered list and wants grizzly bears and wolves to be hunted from the air for bounties.

She has Grizzly bear skin in her office with the head on it.

  2. This is not somehting you see in politics..

Governor Murkowski appointed Palin to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, where she chaired the Commission from 2003 to 2004, and also served as Ethics Supervisor.[19] She resigned in protest over what she called the "lack of ethics" of fellow Republican members.[20][6]

After she resigned, Palin exposed the state Republican Party's chairman, Randy Ruedrich, one of her fellow Oil & Gas commissioners, who was accused of doing work for the party on public time and working closely with a company he was supposed to be regulating.[19] Palin filed formal complaints against both Ruedrich and former Alaska Attorney General Gregg Renkes, who both resigned. Ruedrich also paid a record $12,000 fine.[

  3. No; she only flipped after Congress decided to cut the project with Republican support and after the heat on Ted Stevens the Senator for Alaska...the Bridge to nowwhere guy.

She also removed the video clip of her and Stevens from her web site. Good news is its still on UTube...go see it. The Alaska newspapers dont talk well of her. Google and read.

  4. Don't Care!

  5. I believe that McCain will make her a watchdog in charge of reforming the Washington Political process. Its change for the good, rather than Obama's conversion to a welfare state.

  6. Yep. And challanged the oil companies. Took profits from the oil and actually gave it to citizens. Crazy cool idea.

  7. but she still kept your federal tax money

  8. Yes

  9. Yes. It is also true that she agrees with Obama's energy plan, that she has significantly increased taxes on oil companies and was endorsed by this same Ted Stevens who was famous for the Bridge to Nowhere. Also she opposed a clean water initiative because it would make mining corporations deal with the cost of polluting salmon hatcheries and waterways, possibly breaking the law by doing so.

    Ok, here's the exact quotes

August 4, 2008, Fairbanks, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today responded to the energy plan put forward by the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

"I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska's natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs," Governor Palin said. "The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs."...

Governor Palin also acknowledged the Senator's proposal to offer $1,000 rebates to those struggling with the high cost of energy.

"We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home," Governor Palin said. "This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board."

The Governor did question the means to pay for Obama's proposed rebate - a windfall profits tax on oil companies. In Alaska, the state's resource valuation system, ACES, provides strong incentives for companies to re-invest their profits in new production.

"Windfall profits taxes alone prevent additional investment in domestic production. Without new supplies from American reserves, our dependency and addiction to foreign sources of oil will continue," Governor Palin said.

  10. Yes, Absolutely

  11. She had nothing to do with opposing congress.  After the scandal broke, congress refused to fund it.

  12. Thats what I heard her say. Either shes lying or its true. There are those trying to say she endorsed the project, but she says she stopped it, and if you read up on her accomplishments she stopped alot of other waste too. I like her. Makes voting for McCain easier.

  13. No. She actively sought federal funding of it as a way to spur development of an area that has a lot of ocean cruises stopping by.

After it became a cause celebre of the anti-pork barrel crowd and funding was cut she expressed her disappointment and said they'd have to find another way to fund it. When it became apparent that Alaska couldn't afford it, she dropped the plans.
