  1. the m-1 abrams is the one to beat and good luck trying to beat it.the most devastating thing on the battle field.

  2. Powerful in what way?

According to Wikipedia, the T-34 was a russian tank built between 1941 and 1958. It was one of the best tanks in the world at the time when Russia entered World War II, but was obviously made obsolete between then and now by advancing technologies. Russia is generally regarded to have had the highest-quality tank forces in World War II, and I suppose the T-34 formed a part of this.

The largest tank ever built is the Panzer VIII Maus. Although they never saw combat, two working prototypes were built by n**i Germany during World War II. The design weighed 180 tonnes and was driven by a 1200 horsepower (900000 watt) engine. Due to its low speed and the difficult of getting it across bridges, it is unlikely that the Maus would have been effective in battle. The M1 Abrams, by comparison, weighs less than half as much but is powered by a 1500 horsepower engine. The second-largest tank ever seriously proposed, the Landkruezer P1000 Ratte, would have carried multiple engines for a total of 16000 horsepower (about 13 million watts), but was never built.

Large modern tanks generally carry either 120mm or 125mm cannons, depending on where they are built, but some functional tanks have been built with 152mm cannons. Furthermore, the Centurion (a british tank built early in the Cold War) was occasionally fitted with a 165mm cannon, probably the largest standard gun on any tank. However, the german Morser Karl self-propelled siege guns built during World War II carried enormous 60cm mortars, and the Landkreuzer P1550 Monster, the largest self-propelled land combat vehicle ever designed, would have carried an 80cm artillery gun of a type that fired 7-tonne projectiles, the most massive artillery projectiles ever fired by any weapon.

Finally, the most effective tank ever built, while highly debatable, is probably the M1 Abrams, built by the United States and first entered into service in 1980.
