  1. The overwhelming majority of Uruguay's population is of prevalently white European descent: Spaniards, and Italians being the most prevelant, followed by French, Germans, Portuguese, British, Swiss, Russians, Poles, Bulgarians, Hungarians, Ukrainians, Lithuanians, Estonians, Latvians, Lebanese, Dutch, Belgians, Croatians, Austrians, Greeks, Scandinavians, Irish and Armenians. According to the 2006 National Survey of Homes by the Uruguayan National Institute of Statistics: 94.6% chose European ancestry, 9.1% chose Afro/Black ancestry and 4.5% chose native-American ancestry (People surveyed were allowed to choose more than one option).

So, no 30% Jews there. Sorry. It is only 0.4%.  All I know that in Argentina is has the second more concentrate Jewish population after the USA.

About Montevideo....Just like any metropolitan city it has it's ups n downs. It is NOT overcrowed like NYC or Sao Paulo n its just a very lovely city.

  3. I have not idea if Uruguay has 30% of Jewish people, but I know there are many Jews there. Most of them have moved to Latin America (specially to Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay) after The Second World War.

Montevideo is such a beautiful serene city, but not only. There are many other lovely towns, and all of them are serene as well. Punta del Este is a paradisiac town, with good food, entertainment, nice people and amazing beaches. You should try it! The Uruguayans are lovely persons and they treat tourists very well. I have been there for twice and I wish to come back on my next vacation.

  4. No....but the country is 94% European...and half of the population is Italian origin

  5. The majority of Uruguayans do not actively practice religion. It is widely considered the most secular nation in Latin America.
