Is it true that a bulletproof vest doesnt actually stop bullets, the bullets still go through the vest and into you, but the bulletproof vest only stops your organs from coming out once youve been shot.

Is this true?

Thanks

  1. False.

Bulletproof vests are made of Kevlar, a weaved material that "catches" bullets.

  2. The correct term is "body armor", because it is not bulletproof. It will, however, stop most rounds. The whole concept is to prevent the bullet from entering your body.

The way it works, it is constructed of several thin layers of Kevlar, a material that absorbs shock by dispersing the energy over a wide area. This helps prevent the bullet from exiting the vest and entering your body. If you look at a vest after it is shot, you will see the Kevlar forming a ball around the bullet.

The vests are rated for the type of round the can stop. The better the rating, the heavier the vest.

When purchasing a vest, the officer makes a decision based on comfort level vs. protection.

  3. false!!! look up dragon skin bullet proof vests on youtube. it is on one of the future weapons episode. by the way, who told you that load of c**p?

  4. A bulletproof vest if it has done it's job will in fact stop the bullet from penetrating the human body.  There is a tremendous amount of energy from the bullet which causes injury to the body.  Some of this energy is still absorbed by the body even with a bulletproof vest on. Therfore, the body can still sustain injury even with a bullet proof vest on.

  5. Don't know, haven't tested mine yet!  Lol!

No seriously, they are supposed to stop the bullet penetrating but they have different levels of protection so will only stop certain types of bullets.  Some also have ceramic plates which will stop more hefty bullets.

  6. No. The vest absorbs the energy of the bullet distributing it over a large area. That prevent the bullet from penetrating the body.

Even when the bullet goes through the vest, it's energy is (hopefully) reduced and in consequence the damage done is reduced.

Results vary depending on the kind and quality of the vest and the characteristics of the bullet impact (type of bullet, speed, angle, distance, etc).

  7. Sad to say but some of the vests aren't as good as others.  Some cannot stop bullets....etc.  While some can.

  8. depends on what kind of gun is shooting at it..

  9. Vests come in varying levels of protection. Certainly in terms of protection from bullets I would not describe any armour as being bullet proof.

The body armour I wear should stop an 8 or 9mm round from penetrating the vest.Despite the fact that a bullet can be stopped by a vest the wearer could still suffer from trauma injuries. That is why some armour is fitted with trauma packs.

The Home Office Scientific Development Branch do thorough testing on all police issue body armour prior to passing it fit for use.

  10. a bullet proof vest absorbs  a lot of the impact the bullet may still go into0o you but wont cause no where near as much damage most of the times it will stop the bullet from actually causing anything more than a bruise

  11. The ceramic in the kevlar stops the bullet.

  12. False....sort of....

Kevlar is great and does a good job of catching the bullets so that you aren't seriously hurt...you can see the slugs just stuck in the mass of vest...

but the higher the gauge, the more risk you have of shooting through body armor....so you can get shot and in those instances I doubt a vest will stop your organs from coming out.

You might be thinking of the types of bullets that open up as they go into a person, so the first hole will be a bullet hole, but the hole out the back will be a huge gaping hole (were presumably your organs would fall out) My DH has those bullets and the vest catches them.

  13. No. A bullet proof  vest disperses the kinetic force of the bullet before it can pierce the wearers body. A bullet rupturing vital organs will make a person just as dead regardless of whether the organ remains in the body cavity.
