Ive been told that a cockroach would servive a nuclear blast so me and my mate rob put one in a microwave. It didnt survive it burnt to a crisp, so howcome people think these things are invincible and will one day rule the world as they will become human sized and their brains will adapt so they can live in the houses we leave behind?

  1. its true......but the cockroach wont survive longer than the beetle. they can both survive a nuclear blast but the beetle has more of a chance of surviving.

  2. Stick one in your microwave and watch.

  3. I took AP Physics and No it is not possible

  4. Um, no, a cockroach would certainly not survive a nuclear blast. It's known to survive the heavy radiation that follows, not a nuclear explosion itself! And yes, a cockroach has exponentially higher resistance to alpha, beta and gamma rays than a human does. What you did in your microwave showed that cockroaches can be burnt to death -- that should already be obvious. But the roach did not die of exposure to radiation.

  5. They are more immune to radiation and other hazard than people are, but that doesn't make them bulletproof -- as you have seen.

  6. dude... it's not about their individual strength. it's about how they are resilient as a species and don't go extinct easily.

  7. Yes, but not an individual as stated above.  We know from the age, and distribution on the planet that they have survived cataclysms for millenia .

  8. I believe they can survive the radiation if they weren't in the center of the explosion. Were as a human would die from the radiation even if they weren't in the center of the explosion.

  9. Nobody has ever tested the hypothesis that a cockroach can survive a nuclear blast that it is in.

But there is a significant chance that one might survive a blast that it was not in.

From that, it is likely that some cockroaches might survive despite a lot of nuclear blasts going off, since there will be space between them that will be survivable.

  10. they wont
