  1. Yeah, some Alien Critics had not been happy with ID4 and plan to send a pretty bad review on RottenTomatoes.

On comets: There are many comets in the solar system, most not visible at all and often far away from Earth. One comet is currently visible as pretty faint object (Magnitude +4).

No such close approach as the binary asteroid last monday is expected for this year.

  2. SETI has been listening for comments for decades, now and so far.... nothing.

Do you mean COMET? as in a large icy-ball travelling through space that leaves a nice tail visible from earth?

If so, then how *close* are you talking about.  Comets pass by the earth all the time, but rarely close enough to cause harm or even collide with the earth.  If there is a comet coming in October, it will not pass very close (otherwise I'd have heard about it).

    .

  3. Comments happen all the time. In fact, I just made one.

  4. No I don't think so...but maybe a comet might...not too sure about the comment though...hmmm

  5. do u mean comet? well, i dont think so, i dunno were u got that idea, but im not sure...

  6. Comets.*

  7. Comments approach us constantly, but Comets are much more rare.

  8. Comets of various sizes are approaching Earth all the time.  Most of them don't even become visible (unless you look at them with a telescope).

If someone asked me to bet whether a comet will approach during a month (any month), I would bet "yes" and I would be almost certain to win.

I went to this web site

    http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/Ephemerid...

to see if any recently discovered comets met your question of "will approach Earth October 2008"

In the list, I found a dozen that fit that category (by clicking on each one and finding the date of perihelion)

However the list is not easy to use and is definitely for people who understand how to read these ephemerids.

Also, Earth is hit by small comets (very small comets) almost every week (and small meteoroid every day, many times a day).  Some of them are "big enough" that if they fall during the night, you might see a "shooting star" as they burn up.

  9. Comments are what we do here

Comets, are big rocks in orbit around the sun.  There may be one that approaches then, but near and Hitting are 2 different things.

Google NEO or Near Earth Orbits/Objects to see a map of whats out there.
