  1. Yes kinky/curly hair is generally dry.  Straighter hair has a cuticle structure that allows the moisture to stay in longer.  Kinky/curly hair's cuticles bend and twist so the moisture seeps out faster.  The bends also make it hard for our scalp's natural sebum (oil) to run down the length of our hair shaft to hold the moisture in.  That's why our hair is prone to dryness.  Fortunately, it's also why our hair is resistant to lice and other gross parasites that people with straight hair get :D

Since we have to beware of dryness, moisturizing and hydrating conditioners/creams are best for us...things with humectants, We generally use oils in our hair after washing it to seal in the moisture.

This is not to say that all people who are African American have dry hair. We don't all have the same hair type.  An black woman with Nia Long fine and straight hair probably won't have this problem.  Her hair might suffer from oilyness considering how fine it is.

  2. Well I'm a quarter african american and my hair is dry and really curly. Just get a deep conditioner and some hair products that will moisturize it.

  3. No, you don't sound racist...our hair typically doesn't produce as much sebum, is all. It also depends on the hair type, people with 4b kinky hair may need more lubrication on their hair shaft than someone with 3a hair texture.

  4. UUUMM.....NO NOT REALLY....CUZ WHEN I SHAMPOO MY HAIR I DNT HAVE 2 PUT ANY OILS IN IT....SUM PPL HAIR MAKE OILS

  5. ummm.
