Is it true that after 30 minutes of downpour, rain water is free of pollutant?

I just recalled this statement from an old teacher of mine... I told this to some friends and got ridiculed... hahahaha...

  1. Water is an excellent solvent (many things dissolve in it). Compounds like NO2, SO3, dissolve in it to make acid rain.

    So no rain water is not free of pollutants.


  2. Yes it would be free from pollutants but not completely. It depends on the concentrations of pollutants and how fast is downpour.   3. It might be a little cleaner but it wouldn't be free.  It just doesn't make logical sense.
