Is it true that after 30 minutes of downpour, rain water is free of pollutant?

I just recalled this statement from an old teacher of mine... I told this to some friends and got ridiculed... hahahaha...

Water is an excellent solvent (many things dissolve in it). Compounds like NO2, SO3, dissolve in it to make acid rain.

So no rain water is not free of pollutants.

Yes it would be free from pollutants but not completely. It depends on the concentrations of pollutants and how fast is downpour. Moreover air currents are entering and leaving and hence some pollutants would still be there. If you have doubt or want to know more, feel free to contact me: [e-mail]

It might be a little cleaner but it wouldn't be free.  It just doesn't make logical sense.
