Is it true that airlines are now charging 15 dollars for luggage?

has anyone heard about that? im unsure about the details but i just heard that they are charging 15 dollars for luggage? details??

  2. The American Airline charge 15 dollars for one piece of checked-in baggage and 25 dollars for the second one from June 15 this year. Till then, it would allow one baggage to be checked in free and charge 25 dollars for the second one.

    Southwest Airlines

    Free Baggage Allowance- Southwest allows two checked pieces at a maximum of 50lbs per piece. Excess baggage fees for extra luggage/oversized luggage/overweight luggage start at $25 and run up to a bit over the hundred dollar range.

    Sports Items/Other Baggage Restrictions- Several sports items may be checked in for free and count toward the free luggage allowance. Heavier and larger equipment, for the most part, may be checked for a cost of $50 per direction.  Strollers/car seats count toward the free luggage allowance.

    JetBlue

    Free Baggage Allowance- The free checked in allowance is 50lbs, 1 bag, and an additional 40lbs maximum of carry on luggage. Excess baggage fees for extra luggage/oversized luggage/overweight luggage start at $20 and can run close to the hundred dollar range. A fee of $20 is assessed for checking in a second piece of luggage.

    Sports Items/Other Baggage Restrictions- Most sports items may be checked in for free and count toward the free luggage allowance. A fee items may be checked for a fee between $25 and $50 per direction.

    Midwest Airlines

    Free Baggage Allowance- NONE. First and second checked baggage charges are $10 web/$20 airport, and luggage can weigh a maximum of 50lbs each. Excess baggage fees for extra luggage/oversized luggage/overweight luggage are $25-$150. Carry on luggage is free.

    Sports Items/Other Baggage Restrictions- $50 per direction.

  3. There are airlines which have started charging for checking a bag.

    I have chosen NOT to travel on those airlines.  Check ticket prices online.  It is my experience that airlines who charge a bag check fee are not better priced than the others.

    Over 50 lbs. on any checked bag on any airline will be charged an overweight fee.

  5. Only American Airlines, United Airlines, and US Airways are charging $15 for the first bag at the moment. However, I think that almost all of the major are charging $25 for the second checked bag - exceptions include Southwest and AirTran. Southwest allows 2 checked bags for free (again, as of the moment - it's always subject to change) and if you check a second bag with AirTran, it's $10 if you do an online check in and $20 if you check in at the airport.
