  1. Because feminists as a group have a bad name.

They are associated with being physically unattractive man-haters who promote female supremacy. They also tend to be hypocritical and inconsistant in their teachings and behavior.

  2. I think all women have benfited from the original feminist movement, and first wave feminists are supported even by most traditional women, and men. But the policies and aims of feminism have changed a lot since then and now, and I can't think of a single thing that the feminist movement within my lifetime has done to help me. I have equal rights already, and I call myself an equalist because I believe in securing equal rights for anyone who doesn't have them, not just women.

  3. What rewards; here let me tell you about who I really admire.  Margaret Brent who in 1647 marched in on the Maryland Assembly and demanded the right to vote; http://www.factmonster.com/ipka/A0907019...

About that voting thing we acquired, tried it once; unfortunately it bored me to tears.  Margaret Brent, (1601–1671), was the first woman in North American Colonies to act as an attorney before a court of the Common Law, and a significant founding participant in the early history of the Colony of Maryland and the Colony of Virginia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Br...  Then there was Mary Hays McCauly; also known as Molly Pitcher. http://sill-www.army.mil/pao/pamolly.htm...  What about the the founder of the The Mount Holyoke Female Seminary, in Massachusetts, is created to provide higher education to women. Most of its early graduates became teachers in the 1840s. http://www.factmonster.com/ipka/A0907019...

Here's a bit more about this fine school.  http://www.mtholyoke.edu/marylyon/nofram... July 3 1848 was the first official Women's Convention in Seneca New York; in 1906 the term Femism was first coined. http://www.feminist.com/askamy/feminism/... http://www.history.com/this-day-in-histo... tells of the very first divorce in the American colonies. Feminists say it's because of them; just like they say it's because of them that women now have a right to choose whom they want to marry.  Well, this says different. http://www.gutenberg.org/files/15488/154...

You d**n right I would hate to be called a Femininst, because I'm not one, nor am I reaping any rewards; except that which I earn through my own doing not feminist doing. As for working and earning money the colonial women had been doing it and quite well I must add. 1767 Anne Catherine Hoof Green takes over her late husband's printing and newspaper business,

  4. Yes, for several reasons, three of which I will list below.

    1. While some women are currently enjoying the benefits of feminism, they would eventually prefer to live a more traditional life. The chances of this happening under today's circumstances are much slimmer, and it's easier to blame feminists for this than any one of many economic factors.

    2. A few do perceive feminism as a combination plate of negative stereotypes, most of which relate to appearance and sexuality.

    3. They are seeing the drawbacks of ideas put forth by certain modern feminists and do not wish to be associated with them.

  5. Maybe, because the connotation of feminist is that of extreme feminists, or femi-n***s, even if that isn't the actual definition or description of a feminist.

  6. The notion that I should receive the same opportunities and legal rights as a man doesn't make me a feminist - it makes me an equalist.  And common sensical.  I don't need to have a label or join a group to know who I am and what I can contribute - and I certainly don't need anyone to defend me.  Particularly a group of people who don't represent me in a respectful manner.

I don't want special priveledges.  And I don't have a problem with men whistling at me.  I don't feel less of a person when I see a scantilly clad poster or pornography.  Why?  Because I am a confident and secure woman.  Period.  We need more of them!

  7. Because people like their ideologies. All the Republicans who reaped the economic rewards of the Clinton years would still hate to be called Democrats.  Mostly because they're not.
