By central USA, I mean outside New York and California.

If so, what is the attitude towards atheists? (e.g. I have been told that an atheist could never be president).

  1. Abraham Lincoln was an atheist.

  2. I lived in central America, which was also southern, which was also tagged along with the Bible belt.

I believe that that was the time when I started "falling" away from religion. Having people pass out bibles to you all the time was very annoying and nothing about a personal relationship with anything spiritual.

It was a norm. Finding an Atheist there is not too uncommon but they're generally not outspoken about it. I can't blame them.

    Attitude towards them?

Well I've had people condemn me and some people try to save me. It all depends on the person.

  3. You need to be part of the family (ie all interbred) so no they couldn't have a non-christian President!

Don't forget that these are the people who think that the world is 6000 years old and that fossils have been "planted" by the devil!

EDIT - Further to you addition - WELL, I'm very sorry if my opinion doesn't count - I'll take my business elsewhere!  LOL!

  4. From what I've read this certainly seems to be the case.  I have even read then to be involved in US politics (to have any high positions any way) you need to believe in god - even if you don't!  Crazy.
