I heard that boiled water really kills at the bacteria so it's good...but bottled water is so fresh? And they both have somewhat diff tastes. I think boiled water tastes better.

But yeah, is it true that boiled water is healthier than bottled water?

  1. Well, bottles in bottled water are wastes because they take up oil and our natural resorces. Boiled water is cleaner, fresher, BETTER

  2. Boiling water does NOT purify it.  Boiling water kills any bacteria in it.  If the water contains poisonous substances, like dissolved metals or organic pollutants, boiling will not make it potable.

Tap water in most urban areas comes from a water treatment plant, where they supposedly have treated it to remove harmful impurities and pathogenic bacteria.  My Singaporean friends are still in the habit of boiling their tap-water, although this is unnecessary nowadays. Boiled tastes different from straight-from-tap mainly because boiled water no longer has dissolved air in it -- it tastes "flat".  People who don't like the flat taste can fix this easily by shaking the water in a bottle (with some space for air, of course).

Bottle water from responsible providers should be just as safe as tap-water (boiled or otherwise).  However, some people will just put their tap-water into any old container and sell "bottled water".  In the inappropriate container, plasticizers can leach into the water from the plastic bottle, giving that funny plastic taste.  I don't think it's very good for you.  Also, my dad has this story about "bottled water": he saw some guy refilling from the local mall's parking lot.  So I'm rather wary of bottled water.

  3. Yes it is true. When you boil water it boils away anything harmful that was in it.

Plus now with bottled water the chemicals from the bottles can leak into the water and harm you.

  4. Bottled water also kills bacteria.  It also filters out some impurities and chemicals that boiled water may still contain.

If you like boiled tap water, you will certainly save a buch of money.
