I read an article how the more muscle you have the more power you have thus the faster you can move.

  1. Not necessarily, muscle weighs more, thus more weight to carry.  Toned or defined muscle can carry the current weight.

In general the body has two types of muscles, fast and slow muscles. (Speed and endurance)

  2. Depends; if you're doing 100 meter sprints, some more explosive power will help you. If you're a marathon runner, not the case as much. Then cardiovascular training and aerobic fitness become more important, as well as improving your bodies energy usage in the form of stored glycogen and fat- i.e. carb loading or fat loading, as some advocate.

  3. lean muscle, yes

by lifting moderate weight @ 10-15 reps

leg extension, squats, calf raises, lunges

also core & metabolic/interval training will improve running speed

  4. No, I don't believe so.  I've never seen a track star with lots of muscle.  Runners usually have lean muscle.  Weight training can help, however, you have to stretch the muscles in order to perform at it's optimum capacity.

Do research about runners, Carl Lewis, Jackie Joyner Curtsey (not sure of spelling).

    Be blessed and good luck.

  5. Fatima-

Long distance runners are streamlined and slender, but sprinters are frequently very bulky.  I advise you to take a closer look at recent sprinters.  Most have thighs like tree trunks, and have a large amount of upper body muscle mass.
