  1. These numbers are approximate:

Rum (distilled), 2 oz., 55 calories.

    Gin (80 proof), 2 oz., 130 cal.

    Gin (100 proof), 2 oz., 186 cal.

    Champagne, 2 oz., 55 cal.

Wines, 2 oz., 50-60 cal.  UNLESS flavored, dessert, or cooking wines - which are much higher.

  2. Your friend is pulling your leg.  Champagne is a type of wine, so the number of Calories will vary depending on alcohol content and sugar content. It's impossible to make a blanket statement about one having more or fewer calories than the other without considering what kind of bubbly, what kind of non-sparkling wine you mean.

As for gin and rum, but are meant to be slightly sweet (one uses juniper berries, the other cane sugar).  Vodka has probably slightly fewer Calories than either, since it's normally distilled to a higher proof and then cut with pure water, whereas rum is distilled to a lower proof to retain its characteristic taste and gin is flavored after distilling.

Alcohol has 7 Calories per mL of pure alcohol, so if you're serious about losing weight, cutting back on booze is your only option.

  3. most wines have more calories but some have slight less due to not all wines and champagnes being the same. as for gin and rum no they have 56 calories per ounce each.

  4. Champagne, ounce for ounce, or milliliter for milliliter, has lower alcohol than most dry wines, but it also usually has more sugar.  All in all the calories are probably very similar.  Just enjoy!
