  1. All they know is that "this is not a dog and it is smaller than me so I'll try to kill it". This is the case with a lot of dogs with prey drives like german shepherds,greyhounds,beagles,whippets,fo... hounds, pit bulls, and a whole bunch of others.

I have a cat and a dog. If they get really close they will fight. I think Chocolate learned his lesson when he got scratched. So he avoids Sprinkles, ESPECIALLY when I'm watching them.

  2. They can get along just fine and if my cat is in a good mood shell snuggle up to my puppy. but my puppy thinks its funny to stick her nose in my cats face and sniff her a lot and my cat gets annoyed. its not that they hate eachother but how would you react if a huge snout comes sniffing you and get all in ur face?

  3. As for who started to say that dogs hate cats I really couldn't tell you. But i have 4 dogs and 2 cats and they get along just fine in fact one of the cats will actually clean the dogs... My dogs have grown up with cat so there use to them.

  4. Dogs and cats are good together. But some dog breeds are breed to hunt small game like hounds and terriers (birds, rabbits, and in their mind cats). In many cases however you can train every kind of dog, or  mix also not to chase cats. In odd cases the cat can chase the dog. In my case. Go DC! Evil fat cat. :)

  5. idk but lots of times dogs and cats get along better than dogs and dogs or cats and cats

  6. Some dogs have strong prey drive and tend to give chase.  My dogs love our cat but they occasionally try to chase.  Just have to tell them NO.

  7. I think it depends on the breed of dog.  I used to have a pitbull (dead now) and two cats and they got along great!!  They even cuddle up to each other!

However, I don't think that is ALWAYS the case.  I have a beagle (and beagles have a little natural hunting instinct)  who doesn't seem to hate cats but she chases them.  No barking.  No growling.

Also:  I believe the idea originally came from cartoons maybe??  Which are normally fiction!

Your question was not dumb, but interesting!

Summary:  Cats and Dogs usually get along fine.  That's all.

    =) ~Katie

  8. Well my puppy is overly obsessed with my cat so my cat wacks her up side the head a few times because the puppy thinks its fun to play with her tail. And then she chases after the cat and they play for a while.

  9. our dogs and cats have always gotten along really well. one of our dogs is best friends with 2 of our cats, they snuggle all the time, and libby (the dog) really watches out for them. she barks to let me know if they need something or whatever, it's so cute. (although kinda annoying at 2 in the morning)

  10. Ask the dogs.  They would know.

  11. my dog wants to meet a cat sooooo badly.  she's facinated by them.  there is one that lives next door that lives with 2 dogs so its used to them, but its weary of my gobo and gets about 2 feet away from her and if gobo gets any close it swipes at her.  gobo's butt is going a mile a minute she's so excited its that close

  12. I have 3 dogs live in my house and there are 4 stray cats which have adopted us and live outside. When the dogs go out they all just treat each other like strangers in the street. My female dog made big friends with one of the cats when it was a kitten and hence the others arrived.

  13. If dogs have never seen a cat or are not exposed to cats they are often aggressive towards them.  They don't necessarily hate them, some do, but some chase or approach simply to investigate what the animal is.

My dog is 1/2 and 1/2.  He loves one of my cats, they play all the time, she hates the other cat I have, they fight all the time.

  14. well, some dogs hate cats, but some get along lilke two best friends... :)

  15. My dog never liked cats till i moved in with my boyfriend, It took some time to get used to each other, but they play all the time, like love to chase each other, especially the cat, when mary was sick all the cat would do is sit right next to her and sniff her, they act like they dont love each other but i think they do, they would be so alone if one of them left.

  16. i have 6 house dogs and 2 cats. my 16 yr old cat was raised with dogs from the age of 1 week. the dog i had at the time helped me with her. he washed her and kept her warm. the down side to that is Ayla has NO FEAR of any dogs. so she's always had to be a housecat.

i think (believe) the dog vs cat animosity might have originated because of competing predation.

    like, wolves vs bobcats etc..

  17. Dog's don't chase cats because they hate cats or the other way around, it's just that dogs are very curious most of the time and want to go and have a smell at a cat they see. The cat obviously doesn't like some huge dog coming towards him and runs away. The dogs is still curious and runs after him.

  18. Definatley not a dumb question.  I beleive that the original stereotype came from someone seeing the humor in the oh so famous "dog chasing cat" scene.  Even since its been a humorous and repeated event with dogs and cats. However, despite this "scene", dogs and cats are definatley more than capable of co-habitating.  Many cats and dogs adore each other :)

  19. Dogs and cats can get along just fine...I have two that are living proof!

  20. I don't think any animal hates any other animal.  Animals do what they have to do to survive.  Animals hunt for food because they know no other source of gaining food.

As for cats and dogs, I've witnessed many homes who have both cats and dogs, and they actually get along really great.

Check out those two pictures I found online! They're cute!

    =^.^=

  21. It's all talk.  I have a Pit Bull and when my mother in law comes over, she brings her cat.  My Pit and the cat lay in my dogs bed together.  It's funny.

  22. nah its not true at all

i have 6 cats and 4 dogs and they all love each other.

I think that was more of a cartoon thing.

  23. I could show you pictures of my cats cuddling up with my German Shepherd dogs.  They even groom each other.  Actually, I find that my cats hate other cats---even each other.
