Is it true that ferret's rub the oils in their fur all over your carpets and furniture?

Well, yeah, they do have natural oils just like you and me. They just have a lot of oils is all. They don't purposely rub their oils into your furniture...but if they're playing on it then yes, some of the oils may rub off onto your furniture.

well, like most other animals, they do rub their scent on things to mark territory. but they do have musk glands which secrete a musky oil, it's not generally noticeable to the touch. (they don't feel greasy at all.) so while them rubbing along your carpet or furniture may make it smell slightly musky for a bit, it certainly doesn't reek or stain anything. the smell itself even disappears quick enough. lol, no one has ever sat on my furniture and said, "yuck, this couch smells funny...and what's that oil spot there?"

if it is scent you are worried about...most of the bad scent associated with ferrets has more to do with their cage not being kept as clean as it needs. litter needs to be scooped daily, the soiled bedding needs to be pulled out & washed immediately, both the litter box & bedding need to get pulled out and washed once a week, and the cage itself needs to get thoroughly scrubbed down weekly. the other thing that makes ferrets muskier is frequent bathing. because it strips the oil off the coat, the body goes into overdrive to make up for it...and over-produces the musk oils, which make the ferret smell stronger after several days. ferrets really shouldn't get bathed more than a few times a year. so keep the cage clean, don't bathe often and the ferret should be fine.
